Matt was introduced to running as a freshman in high school cross country; what started off as a way to stay in shape for basketball quickly turned into a love and passion for the sport of running.

Matt’s passion for coaching comes from the joy of seeing others succeed and get the most out of themselves. Grateful for the exceptional coaches and mentors in his life, Matt enjoys sharing the knowledge that he has gained along his journey and loves to work side by side with others to help them achieve their goals.

Matt’s coaching philosophy centers around care and communication, as well as ensuring that the training plan fits within the athletes life & sets up for long-term growth. His goals as a coach are to integrate within each individual’s schedule to help them achieve their goals. Matt believes that consistency in training and communication are the foundation of a coach-athlete relationship and can lead to long-term gains, achieving goals, & having a lifelong love for the sport.


As an athlete, Matt was an all-state performer at Monroe High School and ran collegiately for the University of Minnesota. He holds personal bests of 14:17 (5k), 29:35 (10k), 65:18 (half-marathon), and 2:22:35 (marathon). Outside of his running life, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife Jess, their three dogs (Jimmy, Poppy, & Maisy), and indulging in great food, especially pancakes with a nice cup of coffee.
